An Eighth of Him (2023) is a quietly powerful short drama exploring intimacy, masculinity, and emotional vulnerability through the story of two men who find connection in an unexpected space. Set almost entirely within the confined intimacy of a car, the film follows a drug dealer and his regular buyer as their transactional relationship slowly evolves into something deeper and more fragile. Through silence, glances, and small gestures, An Eighth of Him examines the tension between desire and self-preservation in a world that rarely allows tenderness to exist without consequence.
The film was produced with BFI Network and Film London, and produced by Dami Adeyeye. It premiered internationally at the 33rd Inside Out 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival in Toronto before screening at numerous Academy Award- and BAFTA-qualifying festivals including 39th Leeds International Film Festival, 40th Wicked Queer: Boston, and 19th Berlin British Shorts, 28th Rozefilmdagen: Amsterdam, 4th Queer Nights: Athens.
An Eighth of Him went on to win Best Short Film at the Sara Putt Associates Foundation Awards and has continued to travel widely, praised for its understated direction, performances, and emotional honesty. The film has been described as a tender, atmospheric portrait of queer connection that captures the quiet moments where identity, longing, and fear intersect.
